NEW YORK, September 2, 2016 — Reporters covering ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ implications of the hurricanes and tropical storms in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans are encouraged to contact the (I.I.I.) for information, expert interviews and analysis.

The I.I.I. can provide coverage information and claims filing tips, as well as historical data and background on hurricanes, tropical storms, flooding and other catastrophes, including the following:

Wind damage from tropical storms, hurricanes and tornadoes is covered under standard homeowners, renters and business insurance policies. Flood damage resulting from heavy rain, storm surge and hurricanes is excluded under standard policies. Flood coverage is available, however, from FEMA’s (NFIP) and from a few private insurers.
Ìý
Damage to cars from tropical storms or hurricanes is covered under the optional comprehensive portion of an auto insurance policy. This includes wind damage, flooding and even falling objects such as tree limbs.
