Triple-I Offers Floridians Preparedness Tips as Nicole Nears

SAINT JOHNS, Fla., Nov. 9, 2022鈥斺疐loridians should be alert for the potential impacts of , which is forecast to make landfall either tonight or early tomorrow as a hurricane, according to the鈥(Triple-I).听

鈥淭he 2022 Atlantic hurricane season concludes at the end of this month, yet Floridians must once again prepare for severe weather from a tropical system,鈥 said听Sean Kevelighan, CEO, Triple-I. 鈥淩esidents who live in coastal states from Maine to Texas are vulnerable to the direct impacts of hurricanes and tropical storms. All it takes is one storm to make it an active season for you and your family.鈥

The Triple-I offers these preparedness tips for everyone in Nicole鈥檚 path:听

  • Write down the name and phone number of your insurer and insurance professional鈥痑nd keep this information either in your wallet or purse听
  • Fully charge your cell phones听so you can receive weather alerts
  • Prepare your yard鈥痓y removing all outdoor furniture, lawn items, planters and other materials that could become airborne due to high winds听
  • Heed all mandatory evacuation orders from local emergency management officials in areas vulnerable to life-threatening storm surge

Damage caused by hurricanes and tropical storms are covered under different insurance policies, according to the Triple-I.鈥

Wind-caused property damage is covered under standard,鈥痑苍诲鈥痯olicies. Renters鈥 insurance covers a renter鈥檚 possessions while the landlord insures the structure.听 Florida has governing when hurricane deductibles鈥攖he amount of loss paid by the policyholder when filing a windstorm claim鈥攁pply to residential property insurance policies.

Property damage to a home, a renter鈥檚 possessions, and a business 鈥 resulting from a flood 鈥 is generally covered under a鈥痯olicy, if the homeowner, renter or business has purchased one. Dozens of private insurers also offer flood insurance.听

Private-passenger vehicles damaged or destroyed by either wind or flooding are covered under the鈥痮f an auto insurance policy. Nearly 80 percent of U.S. drivers choose to purchase comprehensive coverage.听
